Dialogue between Humanities Scholars and Travel Providers

The project is designed to specifically address the ALTC Competitive Grant Program's intention to support "strategic approaches by higher education providers to increase recognition of the importance of teaching in higher education, both within institutions and within the wider community".

The project's main objective is to raise the profile and encourage the recognition of the fundamental importance of teaching in higher education institutions and the general community, in this case through educational tourism. The project adopts a range of qualitative research methodologies to achieve the following outcomes:

  1. a greater basis for communication about pedagogy between scholars and industry
  2. reinforcement of the qualities of educational tourism as a robust lifelong learning provider
  3. strengthening of the role and participation of academia in industry-based pedagogical decision making
  4. enhancement of the learning experience of tourism for tour participants as an academic as well as leisure activity.

Project team: Associate Professor Susan Broomhall (UWA), Tim Pitman (UWA)  and Dr Elzbieta Majocha (UWA).
