Nick Melidonis - Aegean Light
Nick Melidonis is one of Australia’s foremost travel, landscape and fine-art photographers. His lifelong pursuit of travel has produced emotive images depicting the people and beauty of some of the world’s most scenic and wild locations.
Nick has won numerous awards for his work. He was named the ‘Australian Professional Landscape Photographer of the Year’ in 2000 and again in 2001. His work was included in the prestigious yearbooks and travelling Australian collections of the Fuji-ACMP (Advertising Commercial and Magazine Photographers) five times. In May 2001 he was made a Master of Photography. He achieved his Double Masters in 2004.
Nick’s passion for travel and teaching has resulted in numerous photographic tours to the Greek Islands since 1999 with further tours to Sarawak and Andalusia planned soon. His creative photography courses at the University of Western Australia are always keenly sought after.
While leading the Greek Island Tours, Nick produced a large body of work and in April 2004, released his first photographic book called ‘Aegean Light, the Spirit of Olympia’. ‘Aegean Light’ contains emotive images capturing the spirit of the people and landscapes of the Cyclades Islands in the Aegean. The book has been published by Fremantle Arts Centre Press and is distributed by Penguin. The Greek Embassy in Canberra and the Consulate in Perth have produced their own special hard cover edition of the book for Consular gifts and the book was presented to the Western Australian Olympic athletes. The book is available at most bookshops in Australia or contact Nick for a copy.
Nick is a frequent contributor in the travel section of the
West Australian Newspapers and had his own regular travel photography column.
He also publishes articles and supplies images to national and international
photography and lifestyle magazines and newspapers. Nick has held several solo
exhibitions of his work and his images can be found in many galleries and
private collections.
